Strange Food Saturday: New York

Tao birthday fortune cookie

Today is Kiyo’s birthday – Happy Birthday Kiyo! Last year he had the day off before we drove up to Atlantic City, so he met me near work, at Tao. Tao is a huge, nightclub-like Pan-Asian restaurant that houses a gigantic buddha statue, which I have to admit is pretty cool. We just sat in the lounge and ordered the unique “Giant Fortune Cookie” for Kiyo’s birthday. At $12, it comes filled with white and dark chocolate mousse, sprinkled with powdered sugar and next to a nice fruit salad. The fruit and mousse were delicious but I’ve never been a fan of fortune cookies, they are tasteless and too crunchy for me. But for a fun, unusual way to celebrate, the cookie was perfect!
