Kiyo and I spent last July 4th weekend in Atlantic City, at The Golden Nugget, the most affordable hotel we could find that was still in a good location and offered good amenities, such as the awesome pool we could see from our room. Honestly, our experience there was great even though at times it was a bit… sleazy.
The H2O Pool + Bar Grill (shouldn’t it be pool bar + grill? #confused) has a view of the Atlantic City skyline as well as a view of some very interesting people, as you can tell from my pictures. It was endlessly entertaining to sit around and watch everyone.
Our one complaint about our day by the pool is that there is music blasting, nonstop. It’s a mix of top 40, oldies and classic rock, but it’s so loud and high energy that you just can’t relax. It’s like being on Spring Break except you’re surrounded by families, old people and trashy 20-30 year olds (sorry, but it’s true).
We spent literally the whole day on the Fourth of July by the pool, so we were forced to eat lunch there. It wasn’t amazing, but it wasn’t bad (and I’m pretty picky about my food, obviously). I liked this ridiculously long hot dog with salty Lays chips. It was simple and classic, and was the perfect July 4th food.
We shared the pesto grilled chicken salad, which came with roasted red pepper, mozzarella and kalamata olives and a balsamic dressing. For basic hotel food, it worked.
Since it was a holiday and we had nothing else to do but lounge; nowhere else to be all day or night; and could just ride an elevator back to our room, of course we drank. In honor of the holiday I had a red drink, some sort of fruity alcoholic slushy. It was too sweet so I couldn’t have more than one or two.
If you need a last-minute idea for where to spend your Fourth of July, this place is really fun, I’d definitely recommend it!
