Sometimes a big weekend calls for a big Sunday Brunch. When Kiyo and I went up to Saratoga for Skidmore’s 2013 graduation this year, it was a whirlwind of seeing friends and friends’ families. By Sunday morning, we were thoroughly beat. Maggie, Kiyo and I decided to go to brunch at Country Corner Cafe, right off the main drag (Broadway). The food is good but nothing incredible. I think it’s so popular (there is always a wait, even when we went around 1:30 p.m.) is because it’s cute; the walls are lined with shelves showcasing vintage country-themed artifacts. Also, they sell and use local products, such as Saratoga Peanut Butter (this is a key ingredient in their pb&j Monte Cristo sandwich, which I’m dying to try).
We went hard all weekend, so we had a brunch to match. Maggie and I split the strawberry milkshake (it was as good as it looked; simple but spot-on) and then I ordered the California Benedict: poached eggs with sliced avocado and tomato on a toasted English muffin with hollandaise sauce (I also had them add bacon). It was good, but not the best I’ve ever had (I think this was probably due to the sauce. I think it might have had just a tad too much lemon). The home fries also weren’t bad, but weren’t memorable at all. Since we all decided to go overboard, I also ordered one chocolate chip pancake. I was not at all expecting it to be that huge! I had a few bites with syrup and it was delicious. Although there was a lot of food left on my plates, I left satisfied.
