My mom and I stayed in Anchorage’s Hotel Captain Cook for two nights before our cruise in Alaska this summer. For dinner our first night in Alaska, we were so tired (we had just arrived around 8 or 9 PM) that we didn’t even leave our hotel but opted to eat at Fletcher’s, one of the hotel’s four restaurants. I had planned on eating lightly up until the cruise; since I’ve been on a few before, I am well aware that there is food all around you, always, already paid for on cruises, which makes it seem like a free buffet free-for-all feeding frenzy that I just can’t resist (this sounds extreme, but let me tell you- the amount of food available to you on cruises is absurd).
I had the Fletcher’s chop salad: fine diced romaine lettuce, tomato, avocado, crispy pancetta, Gorgozola cheese with white balsamic vinaigrette. The food was pretty standard hotel fare, but I did enjoy the salad (pretty much any salad named “chop” or “cobb,” I’ll enjoy) and the bread was very tasty (I ate all of it).
My mom ordered the shrimp cocktail, which she seemed to enjoy but I didn’t try since I don’t really care for seafood.
For those of you who don’t know her, my mom is super health-conscious and knowledgable (she is the reason I have my healthy streaks, as evidenced in my WIAW posts). With her shrimp cocktail she ordered a plate of vegetables and was totally happy without bread, cheese, or meat, all of which I’d happily scarfed down while claiming to be “taking it easy” in preparation for the cruise.

I too have had the Chop salad and added chicken with mine. Service is great – and I love the atmosphere – which for me very much part of the restaurant dining experience.
